Pedro was born on May 17th, 1882 in Hacienda de Malpaso de Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico and his baptism took place on June 8th, 1882 in Inmaculada, Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico conducted by Father Francisco Banuelos.¹   His godfather was Gabino Ortega and his godmother was Refugio Ortega.

Pedro's father was Miguel de Jesus Ortega (Mendez) and his mother was Matiana Epefania Medellin Ramirez.  His paternal grandparents were Jose Lorenzo de Jesus Ortega (Balenzuela) and Dionicia Mendez; his maternal grandparents were Atanacio Ramirez and Deonicia Medellin. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Guillermo, Ventura, Lina and Maria Ines.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died due to heart disease, Coronary Occlusion, at the age of 58 on August 14th, 1940 in Robert B. Green Hospital, San Antonio, Texas.  He was buried on August 17th, 1940 in San Fernando #2 Cemetary, San Antonio, TX.^1 1
