Jose Maria's father was Atanacio Ramirez and his mother was Deonicia Medellin. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Gregorio, Antonio, Jesus Antonio, Ma. Estanislao, Florentina, Matiana Epefania, Maria Romana and Petra.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.
