Matiana Epefania was born on April 8th, 1857 in Malpaso de Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico and her baptism took place there on April 8th, 1857.^1 2

Matiana Epefania's father was Atanacio Ramirez and her mother was Deonicia Medellin. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Gregorio, Antonio, Jose Maria, Jesus Antonio, Ma. Estanislao, Florentina, Maria Romana and Petra.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
